Warehouse no. 8

After spending the afnie on the rocky beach of Sliema listening to the yarns of a girl in libertine Barca; I went to ‘Warehouse 8’, Marsa. Of course, I went there fashionably late, paid the entrance ticket and met a few friends. The event turned out to be quite something. First, it was the comedy of Alex Vella Gregory and Co. that blasted the first shells of what turned out to be a great evening, and then it was ‘Hunter’s Palace’ who rocked the place. Of the latter, I bought the CD, which I regretted. If you are going to do something, do it right guys; otherwise don’t bother! The evening at the Warehouse was finished off with mellow shots of rock and soundtracks giving away to projections.

My final verdict: Two Thumbs up for the Warehouse no. 8!

Still hyped up from the conversation with the Libertine girl and the events of the Warehouse, I drove to ‘Misfits’ bar. I was there at 2 a.m.; there were few people, no DJ, and insipid music. I had a pint (served in a plastic glass) and did the only thing that there was to do: talk about the Warehouse.

The evening was concluded with a greasy pizza from champs, Paceville.

Moral of the Story: Keep the Warehouse no. 8 in mind.

This eve: Espionage, Velo lounge, Valletta and Riviera for an early swim (maybe)

  1. Which CD did you buy? The black one or the white one?

  2. sorry, i meant ‘CDs’. Bought them both.

It looked like a ‘DIY’ CD (which I think it was):

the sound was awful, the presentation even worst.

I can only imagine how it came about: recorded everything from a garage with a microphone; downloaded the music into a PC and burnt the CDs with Nero, 30minutes before the gig.

The white CD had something written on it with a marker. A marker!

Quite shame; I liked the gig. Looking forward to the next one.

    cheers

  3. I’m afraid you’re mistaken. Perhaps you’re not aware that unsigned bands commonly sell CD-Rs at their gigs, not in Malta, but everywhere else. And the music was not recorded in a garage. True they are home recordings but ask anyone with some knowledge of the medium and they’ll tell you they are very decent recordings, done with alot of care and skill. There’s such a thing as lo-fi too. Rock does not have to sound like a cut diamond all the time. It’s the energy contained within that counts. But I understand where you’re coming from and no hard feelings :)

  4. thanks for the clarification.

See ya on your next gig :)

  5. God knows when that will be!

  6. alex, If you have a website I would like to add you on my blogroll.

next time you have a gig, please drop a message; I wouldn’t mind promoting the event from this blog.

    cheers
